Getting around Cali

The MIO, without the card

A ride costs $3.500 COP. Every guide will tell you to buy the rechargeable MIO card — you do not need it. Tap any contactless Visa or Mastercard, debit or credit, straight on the validator. No bank paperwork, no top-ups, no queue. Your phone or watch works too.

Most routes run Monday to Saturday 5:00–23:00, and 6:00–22:00 on Sundays and holidays. Plan with the free MIO APP or the Busca Rutas MIO planner.

From the airport

Alfonso Bonilla Aragón (CLO) sits about 40–50 minutes from the city by car. The shuttle bus between the airport and the bus terminal costs $12.000 COP and takes around 30 minutes, leaving roughly every 20 minutes from about 4:00 to about 21:00 depending on the operator.

Taxis and apps

Uber, inDriver and DiDi are all widely used in Cali. Worth knowing: Colombia's transport ministry states that app-based transport operates without authorisation from the competent authority, and that service quality and fares are the passenger's own responsibility and risk. In practice everyone uses them; on inDriver, agree the fare before getting in.

If you drive, or rent

Cali runs pico y placa for private cars, Monday to Friday 6:00–19:00: on any given day, cars whose plate ends in certain digits cannot circulate. The digits rotate every semester, so check the current table before you rent — the fine is not a formality.

On a bike

On selected Sundays the city closes lanes to traffic for the Ciclovida, 8:00–13:00. It is the easiest and safest way to cover a lot of Cali on two wheels.
